Ballet/To become professional or not?

Question
Dear Connie, I know this is not the type of question you would normally answer, but I would just like some advice from a fellow aspiring dancer. I live in a very small town that is not very cultured. The director of my studio could care less about the dancers, teaches hardle any classes, and gives no personal attention to those who are very serious about dancing so this past spring I began to get very discouraged and although I was supposed to attend Kirov Academy to train this summer, I did not go. I figured, what's the point if I am going to come back to this? I am a very good dancer, but due to my lack of training, to become professional, I would have to work three times as hard to improve as other girls, so I just kind of gave up. RIght now, I am regretting not going this summer, but more importantly, I am wondering whether this means that I still want to take this on as a career, or I just want to do it as a hobby. What are your thoughts on this?

Answer
I guess I can't really tell you if you feel strongly enough about dance to do it professionally, but I can tell you that if you regretted not attending the summer program then you will probably regret not pursuing dance.  It seems like you might have to look for a different school or maybe a boarding school for dance.  It is discouraging to know how difficult it will be, but it's not impossible, and if you want to try it, then you should!
Best of luck, and do what you love!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
