Ballet/Wanting to begin Ballet at 16

Question
Hi Dianne, I would really like to start ballet, but I have concerns... one is, is it too late to start? I'll be 17 in December. Another would be my weight. I'm 5'10, 170 lbs, and very top heavy, but from what I understand I would need to weigh somewhere around 120, and be like, an A cup.. I think I would really love Ballet, and may even consider going professional, but would I be able to due to my body type?

Answer
Hi Rachel. Ballet would be a challenge for you starting at 17, even if you were more physically like the ballet norm. That is, in a professional course.

However, you can start ballet now and enjoy it for the love of dancing. You can lose weight as you go, eating properly and getting in shape.

I have several articles about starting ballet later, and also about eating properly for ballet, at http://www.balletshoesandpointeshoes.blogspot.com

All the best, Dianne
