Question
I do not know how to ask this but here goes!
I have just started doing pas de deux. I enjoy it immensely. My question is
that my ballet teacher has me and my female dancing partner standing very
close to each other in some moves and lifts. I have a very prominent bulge
meaning it stands out forward quite a lot. Our teacher pushes us together in
some movements so that my bulge touches my partners body. I can see my
partner does not like this as she is only 16 years of age. Is it normal for
partners to touch in this way or should I actually try to stand a bit further
away and try to avoid to touch my partner with my bulge? Is my partner just
immature? Help!?

Answer
Sometimes this cannot be avoided, but your teacher may have you standing too close.  Most of the time you should be a fair distance away from your partner; for example, in arabesque your arms should be bent at a ninety degree angle to give her space.  She she isn't far enough away from you you also won't be able to feel if she's on balance.  Also, ask your teacher if you're standing too close if you or your partner are feeling uncomfortable.  Good luck!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
