Question
Hi
I am a graduate with a degree in ballet Performance but right now I am
teaching to help ends meet. I am comfortable teaching older and already
correctly trained dancers but I am really struggling trying to teach the little
ones. I have a class of 6-7 year olds who are a mess! I can't get them to
straighten their knees, stand up straight, turn out, tuck their tummies and
tushies in, or even put their shoulders down. I want to give these little girls
the best training I can and get them started on the right track....any
suggestions?! Also I feel like I am boring them. Any help is greatly
appreciated! Thanks

Answer
It's extremely difficult to teach little kids.  I would first recommend finding a teacher training course.  I know some are offered in the Vaganova technique and that ABT is forming a new teacher certification program.
With the younger ones, making a game out of the material is helpful to them.  Turn your back and tell them that when you turn around they have to stop moving and hold their basic stance.  Or do this with turning music on and off.  Be really creative and you'll have their attention.  Best of luck!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
