Question
Hi, my name is Sophie and I'm 15 years old. I don't know if I am to old and to late to become a good dancer. I started dancing 10 years ago, but it was not a professional school. And now I'm thinking about to become a real ballet dancer. Is it to late? Am I now to old?

Answer
Sophie,
There's no set age for when you have to start training.  Becoming a ballet dancer is much, much easier if you start earlier, but just because you started later does not make it impossible.  You have some background in dance, so you'll be able to catch on quickly.  If you have the physique, the talent, and the mental toughness for it, you'll still have a chance to be a professional.  Also, keep in mind that jazz and modern are much more accepting of dancers that start later, so you could look into that as well.

Best of luck!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
