Ballet/developes

Question
One more question.. At my dance school there is a certain standard to get into the company. My only problem is that my developes are not high enough. Any ideas on how to get them higher?

Answer
Unfortunately, the best way to improve them is through taking class every single day.  You could also work on stretching your splits and possibly doing some exercises to strengthen your hamstrings and quads.

Technical details:
Makes sure your bottom knee is straight.
Think of lifting up your working leg as high as you can with it bent close to your body before extending it.
In develope front, lean back slightly.
In develope back, go through attitude to get to arabesque.

You can also think of keeping your leg close to your body when it's extended.

Best of luck getting into the company and I hope this helped!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
