Question
I haven't been dancing that long, about 2 and a half years and most of it was just jazz. I recently started taking ballet lessons, and i absolutely love it. i take a ballet class at a studio downtown, but i also take an hour of ballet every morning at my school. how long do you think it would take to get en pointe? if i get private lessons, would that help at all? thank you!

Answer
Good Morning Elise,

Thanks a lot for your question.

I understand your question, and your motivation to achieve your goals is real, that is a very good starting point.

Ballet is not only dancing en pointe, although I understand that this is every ballet dancer's goal, you should more see this as a goal than as an absolutely needed step. My meaning is not to say that you'll never go en pointe, but to let you understand that this needs a lot of training, technic and strength, that only lessons can bring.

Usually, girls are able to go en pointe after 3 to 5 years of training, mostly depending on how old they are and the level of technic they acquire.

Don't loose your motivation, sooner or later you will be en pointe !!

'later,
