Question
I am 21 years old and have not danced since I was about 8/9 years old. Other than the intense regret I have for not following through with ballet as a child, my longing to dance has returned. My question to you is - Is there any way for me to become a dancer for a company if I start training NOW, putting everything into it? I understand that I would be starting EXTREMELY late, but is there any chance for me?

Answer
I would never say never.  However, in all honesty I would have to say that your chances of becoming a professional ballet dancer are very slim.  This does not mean that you cannot be a professional dancer.  There are other disciplines that are much more forgiving than ballet; jazz, contemporary, tap, and modern all are full of late starters and more mature dancers.  For all these disciplines, ballet class should be taken as much as possible, as it is immensely helpful.

This, however, is just a generalization.  I would find a knowledgeable dance teacher and talk with him or her about your specific situation.  They will be able to more personally address you.

Regardless, I am immensely happy that you have rediscovered your love of dance.  Best of luck!

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
