Ballet/Getting back into Ballet

Question
Hello,
I took ballet classes from the age of 6 to 12. At that point I had a plethera of interests and unfortunately ballet fell to the waist side. Over the past year or so and particularly the last month I have wanted to get back to ballet (I am 19 now). I could and would go back to the studio I grew up at, however my issue is affording it. In my current financial situtation I do not have the monthly means to pay for classes. I will be getting a small sum of money soon, that I will be able to put toward this interest, and I was wondering if there were any videos that you may suggest to help me practice ballet (particularly stretching, strengthening training, etc.) I'm not near the dancer body I once had. I am not looking to be an expert nor even really perform I really want to just get back into shape and ballet is a way I know I can and really enjoy it also. Do have any suggestions for dvd's or any other kind of instructional material besides paying monthly dues at a studio, that I can try until I am able to afford classes again.
Thank you,
Amy

Answer
Hi Amy. At this time, for you, I would recommend a Classical Stretch DVD called "Full Body Workout", and "Athletes' Intense Stretch". You can get it at a former dancer's site, http://www.classicalstretch.com/

There are many other workouts as well, and you can browse and see if something else seems more relevant to you. I recommend the one above because it is a ballet based warm up, core training, and a wonderful cool down with stretches. Done with exact care to her (Miranda Esmonde White's) instructions and demonstration, this workout can really get you into shape.

You can follow up with the whole stretching routine as well.

If you have any need to review ballet technique, there are many articles about each ballet barre exercise, and more, at

All the best Amy! And Happy Holidays too, Dianne
