Question
im doing this 12 paged essay on want you want to be when you grow up. i want to be a dancer and i want to know about how long it will take and if you have to go to college and get a degree. and what kind. please and thank you. i need ASAP!!! =]

Answer
To be a professional ballet dancer, most people start training by the age of nine.  They take an hour and a half ballet class every day, and girls also do a half hour or hour of pointe class.  Other classes include partnering (pas de deux) and learning variations.  Most dancers train at a school until they are eighteen.  Most professionals in the ballet world don't go to college, and instead begin working immediately because the years one would normally be in college are prime dancing years.  However, there are some dancers who've majored in dance at college and gone on to dance with professional companies.

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
