Answer
Hi Bethany. It do not think it is too old for you to start ballet and eventually get into pointe shoes.

The requirements would be: get a teacher who teaches accurate ballet technique, and learn it well. Ballet technique must be correct because when you get into pointe shoes, any weakness or technical incorrectness would be very obvious, and would hold you back.

If you have a credentialed R.A.D. or Cecchetti teacher in your area, visit their studios and take a look.

The gymnastic experience is a plus! You may not end up being a ballerina in a major ballet company - but you will learn ballet, enjoy it, and it will support any other kind of dance you decide to learn as well.

All the best, Dianne

P.S. I have a lot of articles about ballet technique, ballet movement and ballet positions at http://www.balletshoesandpointeshoes.blogspot.com all for your reading!
