Question Hi, my name is Stephanie. I love to dance and want to become a pro ballerina, but I don't know if I am taking enough time out to practice. I go to a local ballet school, but I hear of people my age(14) who are at real dance schools studying to become a pro. I can't go to one of these schools though; because of the expense. Do I have a chance to become a pro even though I can only practice an hour a week in a real studio? I do practice out of class at my house already. I just want to know if I can really make it as a pro. I love to dance and feel like I can't give it up after high school. What do I do???
Answer It sounds like you have the dedication and passion to be a professional. However, you really do need good training from a qualified teacher. It will be worth the expense! You also may have the ability to get a scholarship since you are so dedicated. Realistically, you should be dancing at least five days a week, for an hour-and-a-half each day. Also, look for college dance programs that offer a focus on ballet. College is a great place for you to further your training. Let me know if you have any more questions!
I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help
Experience
I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
