Question
I've been interested in ballet for years, but never really had the opportunity to take any lessons. I've just recently moved, and i live right up from a ballet studio. It's sparked my interest again and i would really love to start classes. But I've been told by my parents that I'm too old to begin lessons, that there would be no point in me starting at my age. But it's something I'm very interested in learning, am i too old? And also would i ever have a chance at being able to perform professionally?

Answer
You're never to old to begin! Many studios even have adult classes, where forty or fifty year olds take their first ballet class.  Besides, ballet is very helpful in life.  You gain flexibility, kinesthetic awareness, strength, fitness, balance, dedication, determination, and discipline.  It would be difficult to pursue a professional career starting so late, but if you're talented, not impossible.  Go for it!  Best of luck and feel free to ask any more questions.

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
