Question
I'm a sixteen year old boy just starting ballet because I never had the chance when I was younger and I was wondering if there is still a chance to be a professional performer with the right determination. I also am wondering if that is too unrealistic of a dream is being a teacher more likely? And what sort of diet/vitamins should I take to help with my practice, I'm working about four hours a  day. Thank you!!!! any other tips would be great also.

Answer
Hi Sawyer, here is an interview I was asked to give at at http://www.balletconnections.com/DianneBuxton

which covers a lot about good diet for dancers. Here is a link to protein calculator:

...to make sure you get enough.

Boys have an in with ballet - any ambition backed by some physical ability and talent will be received well. The sooner you can get into a professional program, the better.

My blog at http://www.balletshoesandpointeshoes.blogspot.com/
has many technical articles written to help serious students refine their ballet technique.

Depending on your physical ability, you may become a pro dancer. I can't tell, but if you get the right training, doors will open for you that would not for a girl.

Don't waste time learning bad technique - and whether you dance or teach, you'll be on your way.

All the best, Dianne
