Ballet/Panties?

Question
I'm going back to ballet and am really excited! Except for one thing; underwear. I wasn't allowed to wear it in previous lessons when I was little (I'm now fourteen years old), and I was dreading that a lot. I asked someone who worked there if I was allowed to wear underwear to my classes, and she said, "Yes. Teens are allowed to wear underwear. It's only the little ones that don't need them." This answer confused me. Why can older students wear underwear, but not the little ones? Thanks if you can answer this, uh, "interesting" question.

Answer
In a class taught by a kind teacher, it is unlikely that you will be forced to go 'pantiless.'  However, it is much more professional to leave them off.  Put on tights and then a leotard over that.  It may feel uncomfortable at first, but after a week or so, you'll be completely used to it.  This way your underwear won't peek out at inopportune moment.
Hope this helps!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
