Question hi...
I've been doing ballet for about five years (now I'm 12) and i want to really improve my dancing and go in eistefords and all because everyone seems to say that I've just got it with ballet but i wanted to know at what grade and level of dancing do you have to be before you can get your ribbons and pointe shoes???
thank you heaps ...I've been wanting to know this for ages lol :)
thanks again , Bonnie
Answer Actually, there is no specified age for pointe work. In the Vaganova syllabus in russia girls go on pointe at the age of 9! In the states, the average age is 12. However, you should talk to your teacher about your specific situation. It's safe to start pointe when you are at a high enough technique level and have enough strength in your feet. I would ask your teacher about what she thinks to get the most personalized answer. Best of luck!
I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help
Experience
I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
