Question
Hi! I've had a hard time finding a kind of pointe shoes I really like.  I have wide
feet and high arches, a combination which doesn't seem to work.  I've tried
many types of Capezio, Bloch Serenades, Grishko 2007, and many different
kinds of Freeds, but none of them have worked well and looked good on my
feet.  The Freeds have been the best, but they are less comfortable and are
finicky.  I just don't feel like I can rely on them.  I've been wanting to try
Gaynor Minden, but I just don't know.  My Freed maker right now is bell. HELP!

Answer
Hi Emma. Gaynor Minden pointe shoes could be a good choice for you. Try some on, and you'll just have to experiment with a pair.

You might want to check out this brand as well:

http://www.principalshoes.com/expert-01.php Contact them and explain what you want in a pointe shoes. There is a store locator on the site. I have not seen or felt this brand - but it is becoming popular.

Also work on strengthening your sole of the foot muscles. The stronger your feet are, the less discomfort you will have from a shoe. Not that proper pointe shoe sizing and suitability isn't important, but strength makes a difference. http://balletshoesandpointeshoes.blogspot.com/2008/10/use-of-theraband-for-balle... is an article that reviews some good exercises.

Just keep trying everything! Do you sew a wide elastic across the vamp for additional support? This would help with a shoe you might like but needs a higher vamp than the style comes in.

I hope this helps. All the best, Dianne
