Ballet/first dance class: what to wear- Parent

Question
I just signed my little girl up for ballet class. This is her first ever dance class. I know that she is suppose to wear tights, leotards, and ballet shoes. But what about her under garments? I know it seem strange to ask but I'm totally clueless. Is she suppose to wear her under wear, then her tights, and then the leotard? or no under wear at all? Please help..

Answer
Professional dancers usually don't wear underwear under their leotard.  Usually it is just tights, then the leotard.  However, little kids are infamous for having their underwear hang out.  If she is really uncomfortable going without underwear, I would just let her wear it until her teacher says something.  If she doesn't care, then I would recommend just wearing tights and a leo.  I hope she enjoys her class!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
