Question
hi, i just wrote you about toe pain when doing bourre'es. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I am 41 yrs. old and just starting ballet and am flat footed? could any of those be why? thank you for the answer you sent it was helpful.

Answer
I unfortunately never received the first part of your question.  You may need to send it again.  Are you referring to toe pain felt when dancing en pointe?  That would definitely be due to just starting ballet; usually your toes toughen up after a while.  If you're referring to toe pain felt when dancing in soft/flat shoes, this could be due to age, foot type, and training.  It sounds like strengthening your feet with some pointe/flex exercises would help.  Taking ballet class will also increase your foot strength and hopefully eventually decrease your pain.  However, if something really hurts take it easy and don't push it!  If the pain is interfering with your everyday life I would look for a doctor to check it out.  Please feel free to ask any more questions!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
