Ballet/pronating ankles
Expert: treivilo - 6/9/2010
QuestionMy daughter was diagnosed with pronating ankles 2 years ago. She wears orthotic inserts in shoes and arch support in her ballet and tap shoes. What is the chance of her not being able to pursue ballet with this condition. Probably not professional, but just the love of it possibly. She is 5 years old (6 in the fall). She has already had 2 years of ballet and tap.
AnswerHello Susan,
Thanks a lot for your question.
I will not provide any medical information or advice.
Your question basically calls a specific answer as it does contain one of the foundation of taking ballet lessons, but not only. What I am going to tell you is true in about everything !
As you state, your question aims to have your daughter keep taking ballet for the love of it.
With love, everything is possible. With passion, pleasure and enjoyment, your daughter will be able to pursue her ballet goals. If she (and I mean "she", no one else) aims to become a professional ballet dancer, then she may become a pro dancer.
Remember the foundation of everything : Enjoy what you do and you'll do it !
Regards,
Olivier
