Question
I have heard that swimming and pilates are good exercises for ballerinas to do. Is that true? Can it help their ballet?

can underwater swimming and doggie-paddleing help a persons ballet in any way?
thank you , Janine

Answer
Swimming is good exercise for dancers because it is low impact, meaning the wear and tear on joints is minimized.  Pilates helps build a strong core.  Cross training can be very helpful, as long as you are smart and not overexerting yourself.  Underwater swimming and doggie-paddling could help to build endurance.  It'll also cool you down after a hard class!  Hope this helps. =]

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
