Question
I am 35 years old and have always loved ballet.I was in competitive gymnastics and took some ballet to improve it. Now I want to get back into ballet.I have been in touch with the principal of a very good dance school and have told her that my goal is to eventually go en pointe.I will be taking 2 hour and half beginner plus/basic ballet classes, one hour and half jazz class along with 2 pilates and 1 yoga class a week, which adds up to six classes a week. The principal and my instructors are aware of my goal and will be reassessing my abilities in December(classes start in September)I am very determined, dedicated, and passionate about dance.I have researched the web about the ideal female body for ballet and I have everything including 180% turnout, great splits and very good, strong, flexible feet.Is there any way you could give me a rough idea of when I could expect to go en pointe?(the principal said possible as early as next spring or summer).I also practise every day at home for an hour and study vocabulary.Sorry about being so long winded.

Answer
It seems that your teacher's estimate is pretty accurate!  You seem to be very strong, dedicated, and enthusiastic.  With some hard work your feet and technique will grow strong enough to support pointe work.  Keep in touch with your teacher.  As she can see you dance and assess your strength she'll know when it's best for you to start pointe.  Good luck!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
