Question
I am wondering if flexibility can come and go. Yesterday evening I almost did the splits- I got 2 inches from the ground, Yet this morning I can only get 4 inches from the ground. Why is that?

Answer
I think that flexibility largely depends on what you are born with but can vary from day to day.  What seems to have happened is that you overstretched a bit in the evening doing splits.  Your hamstrings must have tightened to protect themselves and therefore you're tighter the next morning.  I would suggest taking a day off between stretches to give your body time to recover.

This page has a lot of information on stretching if you're looking for more: http://www.iadms.org/associations/2991/files/info/Bulletin_for_Teachers_2-1_pp9-

Good luck with those splits, it sounds like you'll get them in no time!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
