Ballet/Help with the splits?

Question
So I've been trying to do the splits lately but I haven't been able to yet but I don't know why, I can touch my nose to my knees, I can bend my legs behind my back and reach it around to my head, I'm only like 3 inches away from the ground when I try to do the splits but I still can't do it. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Ella. I can't see you so I can't say specifically what you may be doing wrong.

Doing the splits requires a lot of flexibility in all the large muscle groups.

Here is an article I wrote a while ago about ballet stretches, with some help on doing the splits. See if it helps you.

Be patient and you will get there!

All the best, Dianne.
