Ballet/Beginning ballet-too old?

Question
Hi Connie,
I'm Tiffany, and I'm going to be taking ballet in college soon. I was just wondering if it is silly to be starting ballet so late, and if there would ever be any possibility of studying pointe. I also would like to know if you can recommend a good beginning ballet shoe for me.
Thank you!

Answer
It's never too late to start dance!  There may be a possibility of starting pointe, but you have to be comfortable in the basics.  Pointe is only an extension of your technique, so don't start ballet just wanting to do pointe, start it because you want to dance!  Any ballet shoe that fits will work really well, just try on a few shoes, and go with whatever feels comfortable!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
