Question Hi - I am 16 years old. I have taken dance classes from the time I was 2 to until I was about 11. When I was 14 I took a class at a studio near me, and was completely disappointed at the way they taught jazz, and I quit. (I moved) It was all about the drama, and I really wanted to re-learn all that I had forgotten. It has been two years and I have recently been motivated to start dancing again, really. I want to re-learn everything, so I don't make a stupid mistake. I really want to start ballet, and need a really good place to go. Do you have any ideas?
Hi Mandie. Above are three articles I have written, part of a whole series, in looking for a good ballet teacher. There are more on ezine articles by me. Many of the same articles are on balletshoesandpointeshoes.blogspot.com. They are detailed in technical aspects of ballet.
I mention them because it seems like it is time for you to find the best teacher you can get to continue dancing. Good for you! Perhaps if you read over a few of my articles, just to remind you, you'll get oriented as to what to look for, if you go to check out your local studios. Take your time and see a few.
If you like to look at ballet dvd's - I think David Howard's are very good.
I can only wish you Good Hunting! It sounds like you have an extensive background and could do quite well now with a good teacher.
I can answer questions about ballet positions, ballet movements and ballet technique, pointe shoes and pre pointe exercise, mens training, ballet diet, general health issues related to dance, artistry, performance, modern dance, rehabilitation from injuries, and teaching ballet. I have taught ballet, choreographed, produced and directed dance companies. For any answers related to health questions I will offer my experience, and give references to information, but I also automatically include "see a professional".
