Question
Hiya, um, I'm 18 and I'd really like to take up ballet its something I've always been fascinated by but up till now music commitments always got in the way, I've not really done much dance before though last month I started contemporary which I love, but am I to late to take up ballet, and would I ever be any good, I know I'm old but if I worked hard do you think I could ever do ballet or dance professionally? I am naturally quite athletic and flexible and also quite musical, thank you so much for your time I really appreciate it...

Answer
You can start ballet at any age!  It sounds like you'd be quite good at it.  You do still have a chance at being professional.  Many dancers have become professional who have started late.  Becoming professional in ballet is sometimes a bit tougher than different types of dance, but if you have good training and work hard you can do anything.  Good luck =]

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
