Question
hi im becky, i was wondering if i buy demi pointe shoes they wont ruin my toes because your not suppose to go en pointe with them right? because my mum wont buy me them until she knows that im nto gona ruin my toes and im not actualy going to be doing pointe work for ages but i really want demi pointe shoes and they wont do any harm will they? thanks.

Answer
Hello, Becky!

Even real pointe shoes shouldn't ruin your toes if they are properly fit!

As long as you do not attempt to dance en pointe in your demi pointe shoes, and they fit properly, I dont see why you should have any worse problems than, perhaps, a few blisters as you get used to wearing the hard blocks on your toes... but that can happen when you get new regular shoes too!

The shoes can be expensive though, so make sure it is okay with your teacher for you to wear them in class before your mom spends the money on them!

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Expertise

I have knowledge of and access to information about ballet technique and style, professional companies, ballet history, general care of the body, questions about dance education and studios, and other general topics. I can especially offer advice to adult beginners. I will not answer any questions that would be better left to a medical professional.

Experience

I have not danced professionally, but I am a dedicated student of ballet and modern dance. I have taken classes in dance history, performed in amateur productions, attended professional performances, and read and watched many books and videos on the subject. I have also reviewed ballet performances for an online publication.
