Question
Hi Jennifer ^_^
I only discover that there is so many fun after my high school, especially dancing. I'm 19 and going 20. I want to dance and I hope I can dance! I'm not that fit actually and my legs are short and fat. I read so many of yours and others Q&A. It did give me some idea. Thank you so much.
But, can I really start dancing at the age of this? Oh yes, I'm currently learning some of the basics through the tv programme. Should I go for classes? There are only classes for kids/teens at my place. Can I really join them?
thank you ^_^

yours sincerely,
woonchin

Answer
hello, woonchin!

Though I danced a bit when I was a child, I didnt dance for many years and began again when I was 19 years old (I took an adult beginner class in college) and I had a wonderful time. It changed my body and it I had a lot of fun doing it!

If I can do it, you can too. Ballet is good for anyone who is healthy enough to exercise! It is wonderful for the body and is good for the mind. If you really do want to learn to dance, you should definately take dance classes regularly. It is impossible to learn to dance correctly from the TV... you must have a teacher to correct your movements or you risk injuring yourself at home!

Take the beginning class for teenagers if you can. You might feel out of place at first, but thats something that you will get used to as an adult dancer.

The answer is then, YES! You can start dancing at your age. I did! Go talk to the teacher at the school you want to attend... she'll tell you what class you should take.

Expertise

I have knowledge of and access to information about ballet technique and style, professional companies, ballet history, general care of the body, questions about dance education and studios, and other general topics. I can especially offer advice to adult beginners. I will not answer any questions that would be better left to a medical professional.

Experience

I have not danced professionally, but I am a dedicated student of ballet and modern dance. I have taken classes in dance history, performed in amateur productions, attended professional performances, and read and watched many books and videos on the subject. I have also reviewed ballet performances for an online publication.
