Ballet/max age for pointe?

Question
Hi, I grew up overseas and did a ton of dancing throughout my teen years. None of which was Ballet. I only had the chance to take it when I was in elementary school for a year or two. I will be starting an adult beginner’s class but am curious as to know if I will be able to advance to Pointe at my age of 26? Main reason I will be joining is to get back in shape while doing something I love...dance. Should I look at other options of dance or can I advance in Ballet? I am not looking to go pro but would like to see advancements in my dance education. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Answer
If you plan to stick with ballet for a few years, then you will advance according to often you go to class, and your physical ability. If you love it, why change? At some point you may be strong enough to do some pointe work. Talk to your teacher and tell her your ambitions. She will give you some idea of where you stand on this matter. If you're not happy with her answer, call a couple of other local studios and ask to talk to the teacher there. No one will be completely committal, because it all really depends on you. However, it will give you an idea of what's possible for you in your area.

I hope that helps, Dianne.
