Question
I am 16. I am about 5'2" and weigh 106. I have just started    taking ballet. I have been dancing for about a year. My teacher already has me on pointe because I am a natural at ballet and felt that I was able to go on pointe without dancing for 4 years first. But, all the girls in my class are taller and thinner. I feel like an awkward midget dancing next to them. They have all been dancing for years . Do you have any advice for me. Do I need to lose weight? I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks.

Answer
Hmm, it sounds like you are at a pretty healthy weight.  Sometimes dancers do have to be thinner than normal people, but it seems like if you lost any more than five pounds you would be unhealthily thin.  I really wouldn't worry about it for now.  If you decide you want to audition for companies someday then you could talk with your teacher and get his or her opinion on your weight.  Until then, just concentrate on your dancing. =]

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
