Ballroom Dancing/Diet and Dance?

Question
Hello;
I just started taking dance classes (currently in Irish tap, but I eventually plan to take up Jazz and perhaps ballroom dancing), and I was just wondering if it's necessary for dancers to follow a particular diet (e.g.: are there certain foods to avoid?). I'm just asking because I don't hear too many dance instructors talk about this. Thanks.

Answer
Hi!

Not being your personal doctor or nutritionist, I can't advise you specifically.

For general guidance, just consider dance as you would any athletic endeavor. Eat light, balanced meals with whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables, and possibly a bit more protein for your muscles.

If you do move into ballroom dancing, I would suggest avoiding garlic filled foods before class!!
