Question When I found this site about an Oriole Expert I had to ask one question that has stumped many a fan and so-called expert. During Brooks Robinson's career he wore a batting helmet with a smaller visor than normal. You can see this on many baseball cards and film of his playing days. The visor was cut down to about an inch. Why did he cut down the visor of his batting helmet? I've seen no other player ever do that and why didn't MLB say that it didn't match the teams uniform?
Answer Hi Larry,
Good hearing from you. No, I won't pretend to know the answer to these questions. I suspect the best way for one to have learned the answers to these questions would have been from television announcers carrying Oriole games. However, back when Brooks played, there were very few Oriole games televised - especially to out of towners like myself. So those are two very good questions you've posed. I tried doing a search over the internet for the answers but to no avail. Sorry I couldn't help you but I will keep searching for the answers since these are very interesting questions. Take care.
