Question I heard local radio talking today that Surhoff may be coming back to the Orioles. Any truth to this rumor? Have you heard any other trade rumors involving the O's? I heard Surhoff has been working out at Camden Yards.
Answer There have been discussions between the O's and Braves about Surhoff. The Braves don't really have a place for him, so they're willing to give him up for very little (a straight-up deal for Fernando Lunar has been mentioned). The problem is, the O's want the Braves to pay part of the $4.5 million salary Surhoff is owed for 2002. So far, the Braves don't want to. I think, now that the O's got Chris Singleton, they don't really want to take on another outfielder, so I'm not sure if the O's are still interested in B.J.
As for Surhoff working out at Camden Yards, well, that would make sense, considering that he still lives in the Baltimore area during the offseason.
