Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have four year old clumps of both of the above and they are both now throwing mature culms.  (It is spring here in S.E. Queensland, Australia.

I am very interested in propogating both species.  What is the best method for each (other than devision)?

Thank you.

ANSWER: Dear David,
What do you mean by division, offset planting or culm cutting. Please let me know more.

QUESTION: I do not want to divide the clumps as they are really only now starting to look great.  However, I am prepared to take a couple of last year's culms and try striking them.

I have also read that it is possible to strike new plants from the branches of some species but apparently the success rate is very low.

Thank you.  David Wilks

Answer
Dear David,
I hope you know that offset planting gives the best success rate but if you do not want to divide the clump, you can make the culm cutting from entire culm and plant them in soil horizantally just before starting the sprouting. You can use bi or tri-nodal cuttings.
Hope for the best results.
