QuestionQUESTION: Dear Dr K:
Please could you advise me in layman's terms how best to propagate bamboo.
We have quite a few varieties and apart from the excitement of rooting, would
like to cut down the costs of this expensive hobby. We live in Queensland.
Thank you.

QUESTION: Dear Dr K
Propagation is for personal use only.
I can not remember all of our species.
We have Timor Black, Ghost Bamboo, Old Hamii, an Australian Native, Budha's
Belly, a green one with white stripe, a Mexican one as well as some others.
Thank you.
AnswerDear Pamela
No problem if u do not know the names of species. If you want to propagate bamboo in your house then first wait for dormant season (when new leaves are not coming)and then cut the entire culm into pieces. Each piece should bear atleast two buds. Thereafter plant these pieces in soil horizontally cover all pieces with soil. The best result will be observed in suitable season.
All the best
