Question
When getting paid a percentage of the bar can the band ask to see the printed receipt of total bar sales?
Hi Don - You can always ask, but you won't get it 9 times out of 10. With bartenders comping drinks, adding free shots, etc, etc, you wouldn't get paid what it was really worth anyway. Bar managers have a very hard time hiring honest tenders who don't give away freebies. So, the answer is yes, but you won't get it.
Try to stay away from this method of payment, if at all possible. Aim for door sales or a flat fee instead. It's much easier to have a friend of the band or manager get a head count and do the math than it is to try and figure out the bar tab.
Oh, and by the way, if this method of payment was offered by the bar owner/manager, they most likely did it to intentionally short you the pay you deserve.
