Subject: TV Channel has radio

Question
QUESTION: We have cable and DVD/VCR hooked up to tv.  A few months ago, we
stopped getting sound on 2 tv channels (channel 2 and 3). Although channel 2
does have sound but it's a radio station that is coming through the
tv.  Unsure what is causing this...all the other channels work except
these 2 channels."

ANSWER: Hi
Roch,

A TV signal is composed of two different types of modulation, and the audio is Frequency modulated within the common TV set.

I would like to suspect that you are having an interference problem, either from a common Audio video transmitter like the one you can buy in any radio and TV outlets or variety shops that sells electronic devices.
Or maybe some high power wireless access systems, like wireless LANs, anyway you are experiencing a form of interference.

try to look at some new gadgets that were installed lately, and switch them off one at a time checking if the problem went away, see if your neighbors are experiencing the same problem.

if it is within a block you can check with your local regulator regarding interference resolutions.don't forget to check with your local TV repair shops for diagnosis of your TV, his recommendation is worth it weight in gold.

good luck.

QUESTION: Thank you.  We also have a tv downstairs that is hooked to VCR and cable and all works well.  I assume since the problem is just upstairs, that would rule out wireless LAN in the neighborhood??
My dad has a wireless headphone that is hooked into VCR upstairs but I did unhook that but not the power to the cradle.  Could that be problem?  I will try unhooking all power to this wireless headphone next time I am at my parents.  Although they had this headphone gadget hooked up before they started experiencing the problem.

Answer
Hi, Roch

While your at it, don't forget to check loose and faulty AV cables, this could reduce the desired signal and act like an anttenas, or the channel setting of the VCR, or what ever equipment that are hooked up, try swithing each equipment off and see the result.

the best way to find this kind of problem is by proccess of eliminations, when all things fail visit the local TV shop.

good luck.
