Bandwidth/Minimum Bandwidth Recommendation?
Expert: Cezar L. Palconet - 1/8/2010
QuestionThank you for your time.
First, I should tell you we have DSL through TDS Metrocom and use the isp-provided wireless modem, which is an Actiontec model; perhaps that alone explains my issues! ;-)
Anyway, we like to stream Netflix movies through our wireless BlueRay player and the kids %26 I play live games wirelessly through our Xbox360. Not only are we finding that the ActionTec frequently "reboots" itself, even when it's active we seem to have horrible performance issues if we're streaming Netflix at the same time Xbox Live is active (including disconnects for one or the other). Do you have an idea if we have isp/hardware issues or maybe we should pay for a MINIMUM amount of bandwidth for the services we need?
I look forward to your response.
AnswerHi Sean
Your applications require huge amount of bandwidth, specially when running at the same time.
you may be suffering from two issues, first you have insufficient bandwidth from the ISP and secondly the equipment is not adequate to handle such demand.
I suggest that you make an arrangement with the ISP for a better trade off between capacity and price on various packages for the service, chances are they would drop in an equipment for free, that can handle the demand to go with the bundled package.
regards.
