Question
When it says 5 times faster than dial-up, what is the speed?

Answer
Hi Sandy

I hear this kind of description in most advertising catchy flashes.

This would largely depend on the reference point in a dial up Internet access, theoretically the maximum speed for a 56K modem would be 56 Kbps, however with V.44 it can go to a maximum of 320 Kbps with hardware compression, the draw back is lost of quality, which is not good if you are planning to download data like movies and gaming.

If you are planning to get an Internet connection, consider naked DSL without phone option, the throughput is much realistic

so technically 5x is relative to what is the reference point.

regards.
