Question
Hi,

Currently I have been given an assignment regarding GSM. I am required to propose design of a simplified GSM cellular mobile system infrastructure with the assuming requirement bandwidth of 20MHz for both forward and reverse link. However after searching in the internet, I found most bandwidth is either between 890 to 915MHz or 935-960MHz. Therefore, I would like to ask is it possible for bandwidth of 20MHz? If it is not possible, how should I solve the problem because it is one of the requirement. Thanks.

With regards,
Teck Guan.

Answer
Hi, Teck Guan

your question is a little bit confusing, however,
A bandwidth of 20 Mhz x 2. is more than enough to serve a whole country the size of Saudi Arabia or more, using GSM, which uses 200 Khz. of bandwidth per RF channel.

you are correct to say that the RF band that the GSM is working on is at 890-960.

good luck.
