Question
in 1980 I filed a BK which included my student loan for 8,000.  I never heard from them after that for 20 years. Now they say I owe the loan and the balance is about 23,000. What do I do?

Answer
You should speak to your attorney regarding the bankruptcy laws at the time you filed.  Current law says student loans are normally non-dischargeable.  In 1998 when I began practicing, they were dischargeable if they were over 7 years old at the time the case was filed.
