Question
I have a meeting of creditors coming up and I the ditzy lawyer that is handling my case just told me that I need proof of social security number. I only have a couple days and it turns out I've lost my social security card.

Is there anything else I can use since it's too late to get a replacement card? Passport? Drivers License? Birth Certificate? Paystubs?

Please help! I need to know what I should take with me for ID to the meeting of creditors and my lawyer is a mess. Am I screwed?

Answer
Passport and drivers licenses don't have your SSN on it.   Usually they will accept something official (and original) that has your SSN on it, like a health insurance card, or something that uses the SSN as your ID, but you need to check with the US Trustee's office for your jurisdiction.  If you don't have it at your meeting, they will usually just continue the meeting to another date.
