Bankruptcy Law - rental property with my sister
Expert: Norma Duenas - California Bankruptcy Attorney - 10/25/2009
Question i'm filing a chapter 7. i have a rental property with my sister in arizona. how will this affect her credit rating?
Answer
If your sister is a cosigner on the property and you are discharging the rental property mortgage in the bankruptcy, then the bankruptcy should not be reported on your sister's credit report. Please be aware, that filing for bankruptcy does not protect your sister from having the mortgage company seek collection from her for the debt, since she will still be liable for this debt.
