Question
How much should I expect to pay for a lawyer filing chapter 7? How long would it take?  Will I have to show up in court?  My husband has not work permit.  Could he apply also?

Answer
Each attorney has their own fee scale, from $350 to several thousands for very complex chapter 7's.  You do have to go to an administrative hearing, called the 341 meeting. it takes 5-10min on average, you normally do not need to go to court.  If your husband is in the country legally, and has his own social security number, then yes, he can file with you jointly.
