Bankruptcy Law/CH 7 -- can I negotiate on car loan?

Question
I live in oregon, and have filed for CH 7 BK. My meeting of creditors is next week. We have a car that we would like to keep, and have financing that is thru a credit union at a good interest rate. I was wondering if there is any room to negotiate on the balance of the loan since we are in BK? But we definitely like the car, and dont want to lose it. Thank you for your help!

Answer
You can negotiate anything you want.  Whether your vehicle creditor will do it is another story altogether.  You can't force them to change anything.  Technically, you also need to do a reaffirmation agreement in order to keep the vehicle after the bankruptcy is over, but the only creditors who really enforce that at this time are Ford and Chrysler and some credit unions.  You should discuss these options with your attorney.
