Question
I am preparing to file for bankruptcy and I live in NY. I was wondering if I file for bankruptcy and then do my taxes and receive a return before the bankruptcy is final will they take my return?  Last year I got back about $4,000. If so, what do you suggest I do?

I've never seen anyone take a tax return before, but if you mean a tax refund, that is required to be listed in Schedule "B".  Depending on what exemptions New York has, you may or may not lose the refund when received.  Obviously if you receive the refund before you file, then you would just list the cash you have.
