Bankruptcy Law/Leins

Question
I have filed bankruptcy about 6 months ago.  We filed on a personal loan.  We finally found someone to buy our house but the title has a lein on it.  We didn't know about the lein.  Since we filed on this debt how do we get rid of the lein?  And also why did we not know about this lein?

Answer
You would need to bring a motion to avoid the lien through the bankruptcy case.  If the case is closed, then you need to reopen the case.  Talk with your bankruptcy lawyer, as the ability to strip off the judgment lien (I assume it was from a lawsuit) would depend on the exact equity in the home.
