Bankruptcy Law/After filing Bankruptcy

Question
Hi,
Let me first start out with telling you that what I think you are doing is great!  My father filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2002, he sought out a lawyer, filed the paper work and went to court.
 Here are my questions:
1)After filing and going to court, is there anything else my dad needs to do?  I saw some questions about being "discharged".  Does my father need his lawyer to "discharge" him or does that just happen?

2) How long should my father hold onto all of the bankruptcy documents?

Answer
Well, I'm sure these are questions your father's lawyer can answer.  As to your first question, the answer is usually "no", but I am not privy to your father's personal circumstances and I have not seen his paperwork.  You may want to visit http://www.bklaw.com/process.html for more information on how the process works.

As to your second question, I would say he should keep them as long as he wants the information available to him.  I recommend forever.
