Baptists/Witnessing to a "psychic believer"
Expert: Rev. Stuart Woodward - 10/28/2008
QuestionMy mother in law is elderly and sick. She was raised Baptist but has lost faith. She is a believer in pyschics and mediums, especially John Edwards. She believes in life after death because of him, but because he doesn't teach that there is a hell or any reason why we don't all go on after we die she is convinced she doesn't need Jesus. Bible verses mean nothing to her. She doesn't believe in them. She is stubborn and hard headed, and I am so worried for her soul. I love her so much, but without her belief in the Bible I can't lead her to Christ. Do I just watch her die an unbeliever, or is there anything I can do? I pray daily for her, sometimes hourly. She is so convinced that these psychics and mediums are right she won't listen to anything else. Is there a way I can win her to the Lord? Please help me out. I need hope when she dies that she was a christian and I will see her again, because I love her so much.
Thanks,
Amber
AnswerHello Amber,
Thank you for your question. I fully understand your deep concern on this matter and your love for your mother in law. It is clear that you would be well equipped to share the scriptures with her if she were willing to listen so it is not help in that direction you need. I feel there are three things that would help, two of which you can do and the third you may be able to do.
First you must pray. I am sure you do but don't give up and I would recommend you use fasting as well from time to time.
Secondly you can take authority. Our battle is not against flesh and blood but principalities and powers in the heavenly realm. As a child of God you have authority in the the name of Jesus. Take the authority and command evil forces to withdraw any influence from your mother in law. Do this in a clear and faithful way and pray that God's Spirit will fill any void left.
Thirdly if you know of someone who once was a follower of psychics and mediums and has come to faith, to try to engineer a meeting would be good. Where I minister, in England, I have an ex witch in my church who is excellent at talking to others who have become fascinated by the wrong way.
Finally I would urge you to keep loving your mother in law. Deep and sacrificial love often opens up a heart.
My God bless you, lead you and give you great wisdom in this matter.
